Andre Heimgartner Joins the DJR Fold as Future Talent

Dick Johnson Racing has played another trump card in future proofing the team by signing young Kiwi talent Andre Heimgartner to a development driver contract.

Heimgartner has been keenly watched by the team in his Carrera Cup, NZ Super Tourer and the Dunlop Series campaign he pursued in 2013. Andre’s signing is supported by Wilson Security and Crimsafe, who have for many years fostered up and coming young drivers.

Recognising the importance of bringing young talent into the team environment early, Dick Johnson said that Andre will be involved in all aspects of the team during the year.

“Andre is a talent that we had to latch onto. We keep a very close eye on the Dunlop Series and we know his results last year were no reflection on his ability. We sat down at the end of last year and agreed that to have a young guy under our wings, just as FPR did with Chaz, was a sound strategy and Andre fits the bill for our plans. He is driving with Matt White this year and will have a strong ex-FPR car to fight with.” Johnson said.

Heimgartner has built an impressive record in a very short period of time. At only 19 years of age, he has been racing since age 7. Progressing through Karts, NZ Formula Ford, Porsche Carrera Cup and then the Dunlop Series, Andre is now firmly entrenched in the Australian Motor Sport scene.

“I am so proud to be selected by DJR to become their Junior Development Driver. We had already signed with Matt White Racing for the Dunlop Series so this is just the icing on the cake.”Heimgartner said.

“The plan outlined by Dick, Campbell and the management is fantastic. It allows me to focus on the Dunlop Series but the program behind that will give me so much more experience.” Andre added.
Heimgartner will be on board the new look Wilson Security Racing team this weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park for the official V8 Supercars Test day.
