Dale Wood hoping for a better weekend at the GC600
Team ADVAM/GB’s Dale Wood hopes to tune his VF Commodore to better handle the unique Surfer’s Paradise street circuit after a tough day at the Gold Coast 600 today.
With four practice sessions there was plenty of time for Wood and Pirtek Enduro Cup co-driver Chris Pither to get re-acquainted with the car and track.
Wood’s main area of focus was the rear of the car – trying to make it more stable and compliant over the chicanes and under brakes.
After a blistering qualifying time at Bathurst a fortnight ago, hopes are high that the car can be tuned to reach the same level of competitiveness on the Gold Coast.
Dale Wood (session one: 23rd, session four: 25th)
We’re struggling with the car at the moment. We’ve got problems trying to keep the rear in a straight line. I think we’ve got a lot of work to do overnight and tomorrow to qualify at a reasonable level.
Chris Pither (session two: 15th, session three: 18th)
I had to get to grips with the track being only my second time here in a Supercar. It’s a pretty unique and unforgiving track and it’s something you want to build up to over the course of the day. There are some differences with the chicanes, with added tyre bundles and the like to adjust to as well. I’m looking forward to the race.
Tomorrow the cars will hit the track for qualifying, a top ten shootout and the first 300km race.
