LEARNING & BANKING POINTS – Adelaide 500

While slightly disappointed, James Moffat has banked valuable points and learnt plenty after his return to the Porsche Carrera Cup season at the season opening Adelaide 500.

Moffat finished fifth, fifth and seventh in the three races contested in the opening round of the 2018 Porsche Wilson Security Carrera Cup Australia Championship.

It leaves the 33 year old seventh in points in the eight round series, behind Jaxon Evans who won two of the weekend’s three races and now leads the championship.

“The positive to take out of Adelaide was that we finished all of the races, we scored some good points and as a team we learnt lots,” Moffat said.

“The car ran faultlessly, a big thanks to everyone at Wall Racing – but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little disappointed not to be more competitive straight out of the blocks.”

Moffat’s debut with David Wall’s new three car team proved tougher than first thought, with outright speed his biggest concern.

“I didn’t qualify well enough on Friday, and from there it was fairly difficult to pass in the races,” Moffat lamented.

“I just want to send a big thanks to Wilson, Payce, JBL, Soniq and Swann Security – without their help there’s no way we would have even made the streets of Adelaide.”

“But I’m already hanging out to make amends in a couple of weeks in Melbourne.”

The second round of the Porsche Carrera Cup season is one of the highlights of the season, featuring alongside the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park.

Moffat will contest four races across the GP weekend, which begins on March 22.

“I’m really looking forward to racing the Porsche at Albert Park, it’s a circuit I really enjoy and I am positive you’ll see better results from the #18!”
