RACE WIN FOR MOFF IN DARWIN

James Moffat has toasted his 34th birthday with his first victory of the 2018 Porsche Carrera Cup Championship at Darwin’s Hidden Valley.

There was a sense of relief for Moffat who crossed the line to take victory in the feature Sunday 35 lap endurance race before a bumper crowd in the top end.

“It’s damn nice to get a win on the board, I won’t lie about that!” Moffat said after the popular win.

“It took a little longer than I would have liked to get a win this season, but it means a lot – it’s very, very satisfying.”

“It was a solid weekend, l’m pretty happy with how things played out!”

It was a breakout weekend for Moffat – who had pace all weekend and finally turned that into a string of great results – from qualifying third, to 4th, 3rd and 1st placed finishes across the 3 weekend races of Round 4.

It meant the Tickford Racing endurance driver finished the weekend second overall behind Dylan O’Keeffe.

Tellingly, Moffat rises in points from seventh to fifth in the 8 event series.

“I felt we’ve been getting closer to a weekend like this – it’s been frustrating with how long it’s taken to show we can contend, but I’m just relieved now we’ve shown it out on the track,” Moffat said.

“Finishing second for the weekend is good for the championship points, so hopefully that can continue for the second half of the season.”

“I’d like to thank my sponsors and partners Soniq, JBL, Swann Security, Wilson, Payce & Wall Racing – it wouldn’t be possible to do what we do without them, and I wouldn’t want to either – they are a great group of people.”

There’s now a short break in the season before Round 5 of the Wilson Security Carrera Cup Australia Championship resumes at Sydney Motorsport Park in August.

That will be a two day event where the Australian Carrera Cup series will race against their sister Carrera Cup Asia competitors.
