Strong Sunday for Wood

Team ADVAM/GB’s Dale Wood kept his nose clean to finish in a strong 16th in the final 200km feature race at the Sydney Motorsport Park 400 today.

Starting 20th on the grid, Wood immediately jumped up to 16th on the opening lap before a duel with Todd Kelly and Craig Lowndes almost ended in disaster with the Team ADVAM/GB VF Commodore pushed into Lowndes by the Nissan of Kelly.

After dropping down to 19th Wood began moving up the field and was particularly strong on the soft set of tyres in the final stint of the race – eventually netting 16th at the flag.

Dale Wood: “I wasn’t rapped with where we qualified, I got a good start though and made up a few spots initially. I got caught up with Todd and ended up bumping Lowndes which I didn’t want to do. That put us back and bent the steering and hurt that first run on the hard tyres. I felt like we were really strong on the softs but it was a bit too little too late.”

Volvo’s Scott McLaughlin won the race from Nick Percat and Fabian Coulthard in the sister Lockwood Racing VF Commodore.

The next race is the Wilson Security Sandown 500 on September 12 to 14.
