Wall Third Fastest at Surfers

Exceeding expectations was an anxious experience for Wilson Security Racing’s David Wall, who finished third fastest in practice at Surfers Paradise today.

Wall, who was aiming for the top ten, says his co-driver teammate Chris Pither was integral in finding the right set-up for the car.

It was Wall who set the time, however, and he says the cockpit was a tense place to be for the entire 70 seconds.

He will now try to back up the performance in qualifying, which begins tomorrow at 10.30am.

“To get everything right you’re on edge for the whole lap. I was just watching the dash for the last sector. I couldn’t relax until I’d got through the exit of the last corner and squared it up.

“I’m really glad they turned the timing loops off. Then it’s just down to the driver and the risk versus reward incentive instead of a computer system saying where you can and can’t go.

“Chris did a very good job in his two sessions in terms of tuning the car and giving us the right direction. It was very important with the way today was set out and we couldn’t have achieved this without him.

“I hope I can back it up tomorrow. Hopefully the rain stays away and the track conditions stay similar.”

I was certainly a bit anxious going into practice one for a mix of reasons. Any lap around the Adelaide street circuit is busy, let alone when it’s a new 911 GT3 Porsche that I’m still not all that familiar in.
