Wilson Security Racing ready to do battle in Townsville
The V8 Supercars Championship heads north to Townsville this weekend and Queensland’s most successful team is looking forward to the challenge.
DJR have enjoyed great support from the North Queensland fans at every race held at the exciting street venue. On track success has also been a feature for DJR with James Courtney taking a race win in the Jim Beam Falcon back in 2009.
The team believe that an all Dunlop Hard Compound race tyre weekend will show the race pace of the cars particularly on the tough Reid Park layout. The Townsville 500 takes on a new format in 2014 with 2 x 125km races on Saturday followed by the full 250km race on Sunday.
Both WSR drivers rate the Townsville track highly – here are their pre race thoughts:
#16 – Scott Pye – Wilson Security Racing – FG Falcon
“It is a fantastic track and a really good event. I have raced therein the DVS and main game and heading there again with a Queensland based team will be special. DJR has a huge fan base up there and I am really looking forward to it.
“The format will be good and with only the Dunlop hard tyre our Wilson Security Falcons should be on the pace. There are some great places to pass on this track and the bump over the train track and the way you can run right up to the wall is very exciting.
“It will be a tough event for drivers and crew and once again my focus will be on Qualifying to ensure we can get up the field.”
#17 – David Wall – Wilson Security Racing – FG Falcon
“Townsville is one of the best street tracks we race on. It is very different to Adelaide and Sydney as it has a real race track feel through the Reid Park area. It is very rewarding to bank a good lap here.
“We should be able to continue to get good results this weekend. Tyres will be a focus of course and strategy in the Sunday 250km race will also play a big factor. We need to work on Qualifying to ensure we start as high as possible in all three races.”
