Wood Battles for Consistency
Team ADVAM/GB’s Dale Wood is set to spend hours on Saturday evening searching for a solution to a car balance problem that has plagued him on the first two days of the Castrol 500 in Townsville today.
Round 7 of the Championship featured two back to back 10 minute qualifying sessions and two 125 kilometre races at the Reid Park circuit today, following three practice sessions yesterday where Wood struggled with car setup.
Unfortunately Wood again found the car difficult to drive and qualified 25th in race one before grabbing a solid 15th in the second session.
In race one Wood brought the Team ADVAM/GB VF Commodore home in 20th position while the second race brought a 23rd place result.
“It’s always chaotic in races at that end of the field, the race wasn’t that good. We thought we’d do something different and go long before the compulsory pitstop but that cost us when the safety car was brought out mid race. We picked up a few spots but it was nothing spectacular. I’m struggling with the car’s setup here.”
“Starting 15th was definitely better but after a few laps I was really struggling. I’m just not happy in the car at the moment – with the setup and feel of it. We had a bit of a drama in the pitstop too with a wheel nut that was difficult to get off. We never really recovered from there. We need to have a look at what we can do to get the car working for me and then focus on qualifying and getting a good race result tomorrow.”
Jamie Whincup won the first race for RedBull Racing, while HRT’s Garth Tander grabbed race two.
Round 7 concludes tomorrow with a 250km race.
