Wood Grabs Top 10 Qualifying Position
It wasn’t quite the top 5 position he wanted after a stunning third place finish in qualifying yesterday, but Team ADVAM/GB’s Dale Wood was still pleased with his eighth place grid slot after the Bathurst 1000 top 10 shootout.
The top 10 was already down to a top 9 earlier in the day after Warren Luff’s HRT lost braking at Griffin’s bend in practice.
The car collected an unlucky Craig Lowndes before spearing into the wall at high speed.
While Lowndes’ car was repaired in time for the shootout, Luff and Tander’s HRT will not take part in the race.
In the shootout, Wood put together a tidy lap that resulted in an eventual eighth place grid slot.
“It’s awesome, you don’t want to go backwards but it was still nice to have the track to myself, it’s not often you get that opportunity, it felt different then from yesterday. You couldn’t really feel the grip in the tyres nearly as well. I felt like it was sliding around the road more than it has done. I think that’s just with the sun on it and all the use, anyway I got round to the end and got the chequered flag and still starting in the ten so I’m still happy about that. I don’t want to do a whole lot to the car. We just have to put our heads down now and truck away all day long, nice and consistent and hopefully we’ll get a good result.”
“I’m rapt, it’s the best starting position I’ve ever had in the Great Race. I’m looking forward to the day and I think we’ve got a really competitive car. I’m looking forward to starting from eighth and hopefully moving forward from there.”
The Bathurst 1000 starts at 10.30 tomorrow morning.
