WSR Drivers Steer Kids to Safety in Townsville

V8 Supercars drivers from Wilson Security Racing team were in Townsville this week to spread safe driving messages to schoolchildren.

Volvo drivers Scott McLachlin and David Wall are less than a month out from competing in the Townsville 400 from July 10-12.

Yesterday they talked with students about the importance of arriving at school safely and on time and about the dangers of texting and driving.

McLachlin said the team members were using their profile to promote safe driving messages to kids before they got behind the wheel.

"It's an important message for us to spread", he said.

I've only just come off my P-s in the last year or so, so I know what it's like for those young guys coming through school with a car license.

MacLachlan said the Wintergate company had supported the educational tour and allowed them to spread the safety message.

Wall said "we are very much in the public eye".

Whether that's driving down the highway or racing in front of thousands of people, people are looking at what we are doing and what we need to do the right thing on the road.
