WSR’s David Wall Confirmed at DJR for 2014

Dick Johnson Racing has teamed with two major Australian corporations in a move destined to take the iconic Queensland based team back to a dominant position in V8 Supercars competition.

In early 2013 Wilson Security committed a sponsorship deal with DJR primarily focussed on ensuring the iconic team was on the grid for the Clipsal 500 season opener. As the year progressed DJR’s on track results and their off track focus on integration lead to Wilson Security continuing this support for the remainder of the year.

In 2014 this level of support and integration will be substantially increased with a new long term deal seeing Wilson Security assume full team naming rights coupled with primary naming rights sponsorship over both of the teams’ entries.  The team will become “Wilson Security Racing” from January 1st 2014.

Wilson Security CEO, John McMellan stated “DJR has done an outstanding job this year in working with us both on and off the track and we are delighted to not only continue this relationship but to expand and consolidate it significantly in 2014.  DJR has an incredibly strong brand and were able to build a differentiated programme that really consolidated a number of components of our current programme and we look forward to revealing these in due course.”

In another coup for DJR, one of Australia’s leading property groups, Payce Consolidated will also join the team as a major sponsor across both team entries.  Payce has a proven track record as one of Australia’s most innovative developers of quality residential communities in Queensland and NSW. Payce has a long history of supporting Australian motorsport and their chairman Brian Boyd stated, “Key components of all of our development projects are focused around quality, people and community. Surprisingly racing and DJR as a family business in particular also embodies these principles with Payce and DJR also having a strong commitment to the Queensland community.”

Completing recent announcements for DJR of the purchase of the Paul Morris REC and snaring Scott Pye, the new sponsorship deal has also confirmed David Wall will complete the all new line up. Wall has an impressive CV, having debuted in the V8 Supercars ranks back in 2009. He has been selected over a number of candidates as the team believes the Wall / Pye combination is set to continue the move up the grid. The lanky Sydneysider made the step up to full-time V8 Supercars Championship racing last year after spending 2011 competing in a Tony D’Alberto Racing run Commodore in the Dunlop Series.

The son of long-time motorsport identity Des Wall (who sadly passed away last year on the eve of the season finale in Sydney) David’s racing career for the large part has revolved around Porsches. After three years of Carrera Cup, Wall concentrated on the Australian GT Championship and claimed the crown in both 2009 and 2010. His performance in the Brad Jones Racing team over the last two seasons has cemented his role with the new look DJR.

“The events of the last few weeks have been exactly what Steve (Brabeck), Ryan (Story) and I have been striving for. John has been a fantastic sponsor for DJR this year and I believe we have rewarded his early season vision to get involved with us. Payce also has a long association with motorsport  and we welcome Brian Boyd as a key partner in the coming season’s racing.” Dick Johnson said. “On the driver front we have two very talented young guys. I have said from the outset of 2013 that this is where our future lies and Chaz and Tim proved that this year. We have watched David Wall, as we do all the young guys, and I have been impressed with how he keeps qualifying in very strong positions. It may well be the hardest part of today’s Championship so I am confident that with Campbell and our guys we can bring on his race results to match. He will be a good fit and he is a nice guy, just like his dad Des.” Johnson added.

On the announcement of the new DJR line up  David Wall added “I have now had two seasons with BJR with a small and very dedicated crew but I now need to take the next step and there could be no better opportunity for me than joining a two car team at DJR.  I acknowledge the expectation for me to take the next step in my overall performance as part of it.  I feel genuinely privileged to have such an opportunity.”

The Wilson Security Racing Team will launch its new colours and driver line up at the official V8 Supercars Test Day in 15 February 2014 at Sydney Motorsport Park.
