WSR’s Scott McLaughlin claims first podium of 2015
Scott McLaughlin continues his charge back to the top of V8 Supercars as the Wilson Security Racing GRM (Volvo Polestar Racing) driver claimed his first podium of 2015 with second position in the first race at Queensland Raceway.
”A bloody good day! I tried to attack Winterbottom for the lead but he was just a little bit too quick. This is a really well deserved result for everyone in the team,” said McLaughlin.
The Kiwi qualified fourth for both races and finished ninth in the second race after being pushed wide in the second corner. The results from the first two races of the weekend have jumped McLaughlin from 17th to 14th in the drivers’ championship.
”I got hit off at turn two and lost positions in the second race. But still bringing it home in ninth is great and we have moved to 14th in the championship. All in all this has been a great day for us,” said McLaughlin.
David Wall had a tough first day at Queensland Raceway after being tapped into a spin at the start of the first race, sustaining heavy damage. The second race saw Wall finishing 20th.
”Unfortunately not the day we were after. But Scott’s podium is good for everybody in the team. I got turned around in the first race with damage. The boys did a great job to get it ready for the second race. I managed to get forward a few spots from where I was, but we need to qualify better,” said Wall.
The V8 Supercars weekend at Queensland Raceway continues tomorrow with a final qualifying session and a longer race of 65 laps compared to the two 20-lap races of today.
